KinoDynamiqueJena – Global Dimensions

Following the motto „plenty ideas and little time“, the first short film festival KinoDynamiqueJena – Global Dimensions takes places from 09/09/24 – 09/10/02. KinoDynamiqueJena that is “live” short film production, for in 3 sessions of 60 hours each the shorts will be filmed, edited, produced and projected, with the topic of the films being concerned with the problems of globalisation and global reasoning.

Here, perfection meets improvisation, film meets music, art meets reality, and video- and film artists meet the audience. Having its creative roots in Montreal, Canada, in 1999, and which spread via Barcelona, Paris, Vienna, Bratislava, to Hamburg and Berlin in the following years, this concept is now to become established as a further innovative and creative film project in Jena, too.

In order to being able to work on the film material, meaning to edit it and set it to music, a so-called KinoLAB is set up by the organisers in a beautiful studio building in Bauhaus style, which is situated in the centre of Jena. It can be accessed by the film teams at any time and therefore guarantees the smooth process of the short film productions. Being equipped with computers, editing desks, and diverse studio technology, the KinoLAB forms the so to speak creative epicentre. Not only does it provide the film-makers a professional workspace, but also a space for mutual exchange of experience and a network of intra-disciplinary competences.

KinoDynamiqueJena, thereby, functions as a common ground for the creative exchange of international film-makers and at the same time forms an interface for the most various fields of film art. Film-makers of long and short film, camera operators and sound technicians, producers, actors and actresses, as well as musicians, professionals and laypersons – everyone, who sees him-/herself devoted to the medium of (short)film, in both an innovative and creative manner, belongs to the target group of this project.

Based on the general concept, the film teams meets at the beginning of each session and coordinate as well as organise the several areas of responsibility with regard to directing, script, camera, sound- and light technology, locations, actors and actresses and so on. Following, the ideas will be drafted, the concepts discussed, given a try and – finally – produced.

After 60 hours of solid work, the resulting film material of each session will be presented to the public. On the 09/26, 09/29 and 10/02 the short films will be projected. After the last screening on 09/10/02 there will be a final public event, which is planned to be a common ground, open for discussions among the film-makers, the organisers and the audience.

Additionally, a school-project will take place within the context of the first 60-hour-session of the festival, from September 24th- 26th. In the scope of this, the pupils will learn the basic skills of film production and if operating the technology in a media pedagogical workshop that takes place in advance of the festival. Thus, the school-project contributes to developing media savvy in order to dealing with topics of global concern. Since knowledge is widely constituted via media in the globalised world, an increased media savvy is indispensable for a sound dealing with topics of global concern. Hence, it is most important to know the functioning of the media, to find information that is available worldwide and to be able to sort and assess it, as well as to integrate it into one’s own concept of life and one’s morals. The groups of pupils will, too, realise the work within the 60 hours of one session. The only exceptions concern the fixing of the allocation of responsibilities within the team, the finding of ideas and the writing of the scripts, which will be realised in advance of the festival under media pedagogical accompaniment. The media pedagogues will also accompany the groups of pupils during the 60 hours of the session as competent partners.

KinoDynamiqueJena is organised in cooperation with the EWNT, the FILM e.V. Jena and kino05.
The One World Network Thuringia (EWNT) is the umbrella organisation of active, development political NGOs and single persons in Thuringia. The FILM e.V.
